Pacman-Sugar fight to bring $300M to Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Nevada – One of the most highly anticipated boxing matches will take place on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The real feel of the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fever is already happening in the entertainment capital of the world.
The sports books of Las Vegas casinos are one of the tryst points for odds makers making a bet on the boxers.
The current odds for Pacquiao is still at 8-1. This means placing a bet of $800 will win $100.
On the hand, placing a $100 bet on Mosley wins $500, which makes Mosley the underdog.
Souvenir items such as hats, T-shirts, boxing gloves, and other memorabilia sold inside the casinos are among the sold-out items of the Pacquiao-Mosley bout.
Top Rank chief executive officer Bob Arum said Las Vegas expects to make a whopping $300 million in revenues just for this fight.
“If you talked to the heads of the casinos, they expect this weekend to bring in $300 million dollars to Las Vegas. Forty million dollars just for taxis, but all in all, with the restaurants, night clubs with the casinos, it's gonna be a $300-million weekend that Manny and Shane created,” he said.
For Filipino-American family court judge Cheryl Moss, each Pacquiao fight in Las Vegas is a big boost to their city’s economy.
“He has a tremendous impact in the Las Vegas economy, and Las Vegans certainly welcome Manny Pacquiao in our venue here,” he said.
Thousands of fans are expected to be in attendance at the official weigh-in for both Pacquiao and Mosley happening inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Friday (Saturday in Manila).
