Ohio State Vs. Michigan: Points Aplenty In Second Quarter

The second quarter of the 2010 Michigan-Ohio State tilt is taking on qualities resembling a football game with lurching, frustrating speed. The Buckeyes' first drive of the game that's lasted longer than three plays is slowed by a 10-yard penalty and an incomplete pass by Terrelle Pryor on 3rd-and-10. Devin Barclay kicks a 34-yard field goal, and with 14:47 remaining in the half, somebody's on the board.

Michigan goes three-and-out on three Denard Robinson plays, and Ohio State puts the ball back in Pryors' capable hands. After two fruitless plays, he first hits Taurian Washington for a 13-yard third-down conversion, then converts the next set of downs himself on an 11-yard run. A 7-yard pass to Dane Sanzenbacher nets the first touchdown of the game, and it's 10-0, Buckeyes.

This is about where Michigan remembers they'll need to score to stay in this game, and in a four-minute drive the Wolverines march 80 yards, highlighted by a 21-yard Robinson run, to set up a one-yard touchdown punch by Michael Shaw. 10-7, Buckeyes.

Jordan Hall returns the Wolverines' kickoff for an 85-yard touchdown. 17-7, Buckeyes.

Michigan can't convert its second set of downs on the next possession, and here comes Ohio State's most impressive score of the afternoon thus far: A 33-yard touchdown pass from Pryor to DeVier Posey. 24-7, Buckeyes.

Denard Robinson is on the bench, with what we're told is dislocated fingers on his non-throwing hand. Per Bruce Feldman, Rich Rodriguez hopes to have him back for the second half. When the alternative is Tate Forcier, that'd be nice.

With that kind of momentum, you'd expect they'd want to keep playing through halftime, but the Buckeyes get in one more screwup before 00:00, with Pryor getting first sacked on second down at Michigan's 8-yard line and then intercepted at their 19. It's returned for 41 yards, but that's the end of the half. Ohio State leads Michigan in Columbus, 24-7.
